Lessons Learned One Fence Post at a Time

Putting in our fence taught us pretty quickly that goats will always find the flaw in your plan.

We started with 4x4" square field fence. On paper it made sense, but in reality it resulted in way too many stuck goat heads. N

o one was hurt, but a few did wear a "stupid stick" for a while, and clearly not ideal. We’re leaving that fence up for now, but it’s officially on the “to replace” list.

We then switched to 2x2" field fence in other areas and that made all the difference. No stuck heads, no drama, and a much happier herd.

We also learned that no matter where you’re standing, the fence post will look straight to you… and not to the next guy. Perfection is relative, and sometimes “good enough” really is good enough.

In the end, the goats are contained and so far we haven’t seen them climb out yet, which feels like a win. This was definitely a lesson in patience and learning as you go, and between my dad (Dave), Joe, and I, i think we only hammered our fingers a few times!
